VAT Sentinel focuses on the checkout flow that matters most: validate the number, apply the correct VAT handling where appropriate, and keep a record of the result.
Validate VAT numbers at checkout
VAT Sentinel adds a VAT number field for eligible EU and EEA business buyers. When a buyer enters a number, the plugin checks it against VIES and records the result.
For valid cross-border B2B orders, reverse charge can be applied automatically. Invalid numbers keep VAT and can be reviewed by the store owner.
Handle VIES unavailability
VIES availability is outside your store’s control. When validation is unavailable, VAT Sentinel can accept the order and mark it for re-check instead of blocking checkout.
The admin status panel shows current VIES availability and recent validation attempts.
Keep records for review
Each validation attempt is recorded with a timestamp, VAT number, country, result, order reference, and related validation data.
When a requester VAT number is configured and VIES returns a consultation reference, that reference can be stored as part of the validation record.
A validation record is evidence that a check was performed. It is not tax advice and does not guarantee the correct VAT treatment of an order.

VAT Sentinel is VAT validation, VIES resilience, and audit records. It is not invoicing, document, refund, or tax-compliance software.
